Marisa Buchanan Manager

Marisa joined Verdeo Group in 2008 and is responsible for managing project implementation and carbon asset development activities in the mining and oil & gas sectors. As an expert on climate change and energy policy, she has co-authored articles on carbon offsets and project development opportunities for leading industry trade magazines, and was a featured speaker at the 2009 US EPA Coal Mine Methane Conference.

Marisa was formerly the Associate Director of the Carbon Markets group at Econergy International Corporation, where she played a key role in the company's renewable and low-carbon project development and financing activities in the US and Latin America. She also managed the quantification, registration and sale of carbon offset credits within voluntary and emerging compliance-based climate change programs, including at one of the first US carbon projects at an abandoned coal mine. She also previously served in the Environment Program at the Surdna Foundation, where she assisted with the allocation of over $7 million annually in grants to US-nonprofits addressing a range of issues pertaining to energy and climate change.

Marisa received a BA degree in Political Science from Wellesley College and a MPA degree in environmental and energy economics, policy and finance from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University. She was awarded Marshall Distinction at commencement for her service to SIPA.
